Memory
Memory quilts can offer comfort when you have lost someone. As an example, the two puzzle shaped ones pictured use clothing and the one on the bed is made from blocks a client's mom and aunt quilted together. The pillow is one of four using ties from a dad that has passed. The client requested three as gifts and one for herself.
The items can also be significant as a gift or personal memory The ribbon wall hanging was a gift a daughter requested to make using ribbons she won as a child showing farm animals with her dad at state fairs. The large tie medallion with fans in each corner was designed as a wall hanging with dimensions from the client to fit a specific spot. The client is a retired professional who wore ties daily at his job. It is also handquilted.
Loosing a parent is very hard, having lost my mom also the pink cat quilt is one of my favorites. The client's mom loved pink, cats, vintage decor and hot tea. This is an example of how a client can design their own quilt. We sat down at the computer and ordered fabric that reminded her of her mom as she was describing her to me. What a lovely lady her mom must have been!
So, let me know if I can help you create a special gift, celebrate your own memories or offer something to comfort your family.
Just for Fun!
What better idea for Christmas, birthday, anniversary than to have than to have a one of a kind quilt designed just for a special someone in your life? Or for yourself? Did you ever have an design idea for your home that you could not find anywhere?
A client contacted me to design a baby quilt for her daughter. She wanted a brunette doll leaning against a pink/white check wall wearing a purple flowered dress and ruffles around the border of the quilts. I am not kidding, that specific. Ta-Daa! Another grandma-to-be wanted to match the elephant theme for the new baby's nursery. A throw for a guitar player. Dungeons and Dragons player bed quilt. Graduation gift for a hippi spirited sun lover. All are gifts for special events, created with the receiver in mind. My favorite from the group:, an anniversary gift planned by the husband. Each flower corresponds with the birth month of each child and the butterflies are his wife's favorite color. One for her and one for him. A repeat client decided to have a throw for herself. She wanted a barn pantry: with jars of stuff (she picked the stuff), chickens, a cat, football and her favorite flower. We had so much fun designing it! Finally, one I designed for myself with fabric from Africa I found at a quilt show (love all the colors) with rows of blocks to separate each section of fabric. The Jeep I made to sell at a store that carries the Jeep ducks.
